From purchase orders to sales orders.

The style matrix function in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central lets you manage variant lines directly on purchase orders and sales orders. You open it from the variant handling menu on the order.

The style matrix works like the information matrix from the item card, but it pulls data from the order number instead of the item number. This means it automatically lists all the order lines that relate to a specific style on that order.

You use the style matrix to mass update lines on purchase and sales orders. You can add values, see an overview, and modify lines manually from the same screen.

How the style matrix works on a purchase order

On a purchase order, you open the style matrix from the variant handling menu. It functions the same way as the information matrix or the style matrix you know from the item card, with one key difference. Instead of taking its data from the item number, it takes it from the order number.

When you open the style matrix, it automatically enters all the lines that relate to the chosen style on that specific order. You see the order number and all the line numbers in a single overview.

The lines shown are based on the purchase template assigned to the style. If you check the template card, you can confirm which template the matrix is built on.

Switching between styles in the same order

If an order contains several styles, you can switch between them in the matrix. Select another style on the order and open its style matrix, and you get the same overview but with that style’s lines instead.

Mass updating purchase and sales order lines

The style matrix gives you an easy way to mass update lines on both purchase orders and sales orders. You add values, review the overview, and modify lines manually in the same view.

This is the normal matrix functionality applied to orders, so you can update purchase and sales order lines quickly from one place rather than editing each line separately.
