How is a Warehouse document created directly from a Sales Order?
In Business Central, it’s possible to create warehouse documents directly from your source documents. So, for instance, like this, I have a sales order, it’s released, it’s an allocation that require shipments and from my action menu, I could create my warehouse shipment directly and it will open up from my sales order.
This is what happens in the video
In Business Central you can create warehouse documents directly from your source documents. When you create a warehouse shipment straight from a sales order, you are using what’s called a push strategy. The same approach works for all outgoing documents, including purchase return orders, service orders, and transfer orders.
If you work with warehouse shipments in Business Central, the key thing to know is that the functionality is identical across document types. Once a document is released and sits on a location that requires shipments, the action to create a warehouse shipment is available from the document’s action menu.
Creating a warehouse shipment from a sales order
Start with a sales order that is released and placed on a location that requires shipments. From the action menu on the sales order, you can create the warehouse shipment directly, and it opens straight from the sales order.
This is a push strategy. You are pushing the shipment out from the source document rather than pulling it together later in the warehouse.
Pushing warehouse shipments from other outgoing documents
The same logic applies to all other outgoing documents. Take a purchase return order as an example. When it is released and placed on a warehouse location, you can go into the functionality on the menu and create a warehouse shipment, exactly as you would from a sales order header.
Because a purchase return order is an outbound document, it uses the same functionality. This means you can push a warehouse shipment from a purchase return order in the same way you do from a sales order.
You can also push warehouse shipments from service orders, transfer orders, and other outgoing documents using the same approach.
