What is the posted warehouse shipment?

It is possible to print a posted warehouse shipment, but it’s not a shipping bill because it might relate to many different documents, many different source documents.

This is what happens in the video

When you post a warehouse shipment in Business Central, you can print a posted warehouse shipment document. This is not a shipping bill. A single warehouse shipment can relate to many different source documents, so the printed document works as a joined overview of all the lines instead of one document tied to one order.

The posted warehouse shipment print does not contain addresses, because the underlying source documents can be many different things. It shows the location code, the item lines, the quantities, and the source document for each line on the right-hand side.

You can still print a separate shipping bill from each posted sales document or other source document, such as purchase return orders. So you have two levels of documentation: the joined warehouse shipment and the individual documents that follow the items.

Printing a posted warehouse shipment

It is possible to print a posted warehouse shipment, but keep in mind that it is not a shipping bill. The reason is that one warehouse shipment can relate to many different source documents at the same time.

You get the same print in two situations. You can open the posted warehouse shipment and print it from there, or you can select Post and Print directly from the open warehouse shipment.

What the document contains

When you preview a posted warehouse shipment with several different source documents, you see:

  • The location code
  • The item lines
  • The quantities
  • The source document for each line, shown on the right-hand side

The document does not contain addresses and similar details. Since the source documents behind the shipment can be many different things, the print stays at the level that makes sense across all of them. It works as a joined document covering all the lines in the warehouse shipment.

Practical uses in the warehouse

The posted warehouse shipment is useful in the physical warehouse. You can apply it to a pile of items in the shipping zone, so the paperwork matches what is physically staged. You can also let it follow the truck. If a bundled warehouse shipment goes to another country where it will be redistributed, the document gives the receiver a full overview of everything in the shipment.

Shipping bills from individual source documents

Alongside the joined warehouse shipment, you can post and print a shipping bill from each posted sales or source document, including purchase orders and return orders. That way the individual shipping bills follow the items as well, and you have both the overall warehouse shipment and the document for each order.

Q&A

Is a posted warehouse shipment the same as a shipping bill?

No. A posted warehouse shipment is a joined document that can cover many different source documents. A shipping bill is printed from a single posted sales or source document.

Why does the posted warehouse shipment not show addresses?

Because the warehouse shipment can relate to many different source documents at once, the print does not include addresses. It shows the location code, item lines, quantities, and the source document for each line instead.

How do I print a posted warehouse shipment?

Open the posted warehouse shipment and print it from there, or select Post and Print directly from the open warehouse shipment. Both give you the same print.

When is the posted warehouse shipment document useful?

Use it to apply to a pile of items in the shipping zone, or to follow the truck when a bundled shipment goes to another country for redistribution. It gives a full overview of all the lines in the shipment.

Can I still print documents for each individual order?

Yes. You can post and print a shipping bill from each posted sales or source document, including purchase and return orders, so the individual documents follow the items as well.
