This is what happens in the video

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, bins can exist either as part of a zone or directly under a location. How you access and view your bins depends on whether your location uses directed put-away and pick. This article explains the difference and shows you how to navigate to your bins in both setups.

Bins, zones and locations in Business Central

In Business Central, a bin can be part of a zone or just part of a location. Which of these applies depends on how your location is set up. If your location uses zones, your bins sit inside those zones. If it does not, your bins sit directly under the location.

Viewing bins on a location without directed put-away and pick

On a distribution location that does not use directed put-away and pick, the Directed Put-away and Pick checkmark is not enabled. In this setup, you view your bins by going from the location card into the list of bins. That is the normal way to see your bins when zones are not in play.

Viewing bins on a location with directed put-away and pick

On a location that uses directed put-away and pick, you have two ways to view your bins.

  • You can navigate directly into bins. This shows you all bins across all zone codes.
  • You can enter a specific zone first. From the zone card, you then open the bins, which filters the list to show only the bins in that zone.

So depending on the bin view you want, you can choose the path that fits your need. Go directly to bins for the full overview, or go through a zone when you want to see only the bins within it.

Q&A

You have two options. Navigate directly into bins to see all bins across all zone codes, or enter a specific zone and open the bins from the zone card to see only the bins in that zone.

Enter the zone and open the bins from the zone card. The bin list is then filtered on that zone, so you only see the bins it contains.
